What Makes a Good Dentist?

Dental care is an essential part of your well-being. Visiting a dentist at least twice a year is highly recommended. With so many dentists to choose from, how do you know that the dentist you’re going to is a good one? If you’re wondering whether or not your dentist is the best choice, consider the following qualities all great dentists do for their patients.

  • A good dentist takes time to listen to the patient’s concerns and fears and takes them seriously. He or she must be approachable. This puts patients at ease and comfortable knowing that their dentist truly cares for them.
  • A good dentist educates patients on their diagnosis, good preventive care habits and treatment options they are not aware of. A good dentist must have the ability to explain the technical information in a simple language that patients can understand.
  • A good dentist maintains a clean and orderly office. If the office is unhygienic, it will be a source of a lot of health problems which can make patients and their family members sick.
  • A good dentist has an extensive knowledge about teeth and oral hygiene. He or she is able to quickly detect the problems as well as determine the best treatment approach.
  • A good dentist involves patients in making a decision about their dental treatment. It is ok for a good dentist to allow patients to have access to their records and explain fully the options of treatment available.
  • A good dentist would explain the sensations, the pain or any uncomfortable situations that the patient can experience during the procedure. He also needs to reassure his patient that everything will work out just fine.
  • A good dentist treats patients with care and gentleness. He or she knows that a patient’s mouth is sensitive and dental treatments are a not-so-fun activity, so he or she must complete the procedures with a gentle touch.
  • A good dentist would set the appointment date with his patient for check-up. He needs to remind his patient of that date at least a day before the actual check-up.  He needs to make the patients feel that he is always available in his clinic especially when the patient booked an appointment.
  • A good dentist is updated on the latest innovations in the dental techniques and technologies and incorporates it into his or her practice.
  • A good dentist makes sure that all patients who walk away from his or her office are satisfied and happy with their experience.
